I Wonder What Planes Flew Over When I Was a Kid

I wonder if at some point, as a child, I looked up at the sky, and saw something super cool fly over and not even realize it.

I didn’t get into aviation until I was an adult. I didn’t really have a fear of flying per-se, but I wasn’t a fan. And for the first half of my career, I traveled for at least one full quarter per year for 5 years. That got me over the fear pretty quick.

As I kid, I have vivid memories of ValuJet Flight 592. At least, I think it’s a memory. There were considerably more plane crashes in the 90s, so it’s probably a false one. Who knows.

Now, as a certifiable AvGeek (I’ve got ADSB, ACARS, VDLM2 receivers in my attic, to start), I look back at that time period of my childhood and think about stuff that was still flying, like the L-1011 Tristar.

I’ll have to do some research, see if I can find some old KATL/KJAX/KMCO timetables and try to do some digging there. Or spend too much time on AirFleets (more than I already do)
